PTO About Us
The Parent Teacher Organization, also known as PTO, is an organization that supports the needs of the students in the North Harrison School District. The purpose is to create a sense of community that supports our children in their academic growth. PTO does this by financially supporting critical educational needs, recruiting and staffing classroom and extracurricular volunteer’s needs, building community ties and strengthening communication between North Harrison and families.
This group is made up of the parents of the students. The organization is responsible for providing monetary needs as well as volunteering helping hands for various activities when needed. Throughout the year we assist in the purchase of items that you see inside and outside of the school building such as field trip events, an encouragement t-shirt for each elementary student and snacks during state testing sessions, refreshments for Back to School Night and Grandparent's Day, a meal served for Staff Appreciation Week, 7-12th grade trip meal money and other items as the need arises. In past years we have helped to purchase playground equipment, window blinds for the gymnasium, a concession stand popcorn popper, improvements to the gymnasium sound system, a laminator and more. An ongoing activity that we are really proud of is the North Harrison Brick Project. You can purchase a brick and leave a lasting mark on North Harrison as the bronze name plate is placed at the south high school entry on the bricks creating the sitting area.
To make these things possible we host fundraising events every year, typically Red Wheel food sales in the spring. The students and parent volunteers work very hard to keep this organization going strong!
We are always looking for moms and dads to get involved in our endeavor. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to attend PTO meeting, although we always welcome you. PTO is entirely dependent on volunteers and we encourage you to give a little of your time.
