Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!  I trust that you have all had a restful and relaxing summer that has been filled with many opportunities to spend time with family and friends creating precious memories. Hopefully, the students are renewed and ready to learn and achieve, and I look forward to partnering with parents in the education of your children. I believe that strong community-school relationships are critical for high learning achievement and I truly appreciate the support, involvement, and enthusiasm from the North Harrison community. This community recognizes the value of educational opportunities and extracurricular activities. Students, parents, administration, and the dedicated teachers and staff here at North Harrison, working together as a team, expect excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. In addition to excellence, we want to create a school climate where safety, respect, and accountability are evident. Our students reflect these expectations through their character and commitment.

It is our desire to keep you informed of all that is taking place at the school. The student handbook provides important information about our school’s philosophy, procedures, and policies. It is a guide to the way we operate as a school. Also included in the handbook are behavioral expectations and guidelines for students. There have been some changes since last year, so everyone should read the handbook carefully and use it as a reference throughout the year. Also, monitor the school website for school events and information.

We have some staff changes for the 2019-20 school year. I am pleased to welcome these new staff members:

Mr. Alan Koch will be an Assistant Principal and teach some science classes. Alan comes to us from Highland High School and has two children, who will also be attending North Harrison. Kaden will be a senior and Karley will be a sophomore. His wife is Kimberly and is a North Daviess graduate.

Ms. Bailey Schmitz (soon to be Mrs. Luke Stanley) will be our new 3rd grade teacher. She is a recent graduate of Northwest Missouri State University and student taught at South Harrison this past spring. She is from Lenox, Iowa, where her mom is a teacher.

Mr. Joe Catanzareti is our new English teacher. Mr. Catanzareti has taught English and coached for 34 years, most recently at Mt. Ayr, where he retired in 2018 after 24 years there. He has a farm south of Mt. Ayr and is married to Susie.

Mrs. Melissa Schmidli (not related, just kidding; she is my wife) is going to teach part-time SPED this upcoming year. She has taught the past 36 years, most recently at Ridgeway. She also taught at North Harrison from 1988 to 1997.

Mr. Michael Parkhurst will drive morning and evening bus routes as well as our Vo-Tech bus.

I look forward to seeing you at events during the school year. Please enjoy the remaining days of the summer. Thank you for your commitment to your child’s education. It’s GREAT TO BE A PART OF SHAMROCK NATION!
