Mentor Program

Middle/high school students partner with Graceland University students and commit to sending weekly e-mails (from home or school) or write letters.

The group also attends monthly activities such as…

·        Graceland basketball game

·        Graceland volleyball game

·        Choices music/food/games night

·        Pizza Shack pizza night

·        Make a t-shirt

·        Spring picnic and games

Students may join the Mentor Program during Grades 7-9 and continue through high school.

Van transportation is provided by Educational Talent Search from the school for evening activities.  Students can be dropped off afterward at school or home.  Most events last from 4:30-8:15 pm.   Students may often stay after school with me for study/social/ snack time while waiting on the van—if I don’t have a meeting or other responsibility that day.

Some Saturday cultural activities are also offered at no charge (like lunch and a theatre performance at Des Moines Civic Center).

Students are under the North Harrison school discipline policy during all Mentor Program activities.  They are expected to have fun and make good choices!  Students are not allowed to attend activities while on academic suspension, so keep your grades up!

I am the local sponsor, but please be aware that your child will be under the supervision of Educational Talent Search/TRIO program employees during activities and travel.    Jon Hampton is the Mentor Program Director and can be reached at 1-800-645-8867.
